Guidelines for the management of patients with an absent or dysfunctional spleen: Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine.

Dose?

Offer a reinforcing dose (0.5ml IM) of combined Hib and Meningococcal C vaccine (Menitorix).

Side effects?

Mild local reactions
General symptoms (fever, diarrhoea etc.) possible in first 48 hours but usually resolve spontaneously.
